It is the most abundant element in the universe and the main element in the universe.

01 Sun – photovoltaic panels

Sunlight falls on a photovoltaic plate and generates an electric current that can be used to power electrical appliances

02 Air (wind) – wind mills

Windmills are very large dynamos. The wind pushes the blades that make the dynamo rotate, generating an electric current

03 Water

Water is a chemical compound of hydrogen and oxygen that can be separated into its elements

04 Electrolyser

This is a device that breaks the water molecule into its hydrogen and oxygen elements by means of an electric current.

05 Hydrogen

Hydrogen under normal ambient conditions is a very light gas

06 Supply

Hydrogen will be supplied under pressure which varies according to the application

07 Vehicles/Industry

Applied to vehicles and industry, hydrogen offers the possibility to eliminate greenhouse and noxious gas emissions

08 Water

Water is the by-product of the use of hydrogen in combustion cells, thus closing the circle of energy sustainability

Hydrogenizing BCN has brought together an (inter)national consortium of more than 20 companies, research institutes and public entities.

With the institutional support of the Port of Barcelona, to work together on the implementation of a hydrogen economy in Barcelona, its metropolitan area and its wider (inter)national area of influence.
To achieve its ambitious goal Hydrogenizing BCN brings together a strong consortium of national and European partners with accumulated experience along the hydrogen value chain. Including the renewable energy sectors, the water sector, electrolyser technology developers, gas transmission and distribution network operators, scientific institutes, engineers and community representatives.
They all work together to establish a seamless operation towards the implementation of a large-scale hydrogen production plant and the integration in a context of an existing industrial reality.
